Dr. Gulen Hashmi’s hospitality industry experience spans over twenty-five years with hotel groups such as Hilton International, Sheraton, as well as individual mid-scale hotels, in countries like United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Romania. Her area of expertise in the field includes Food & Beverage Management, Human Resources & Training as well as general management. 

A Turkish native, Dr. Gulen Hashmi is an award-winning scholar-practitioner with more than twenty-five years of experience in various supervisory and managerial positions in the hospitality industry. She is a holder of the Socrates “Best Manager of the Year 2016” award from Europe Business Assembly, UK. She holds an EMBA from Sabanci University, Turkey; a Master of Science (MSc) in Environmental Governance from the University of Essex, UK; and a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) from Business School Lausanne, Switzerland. Her doctoral specialization lies in the area of tourism and hotel sustainability strategies, change management, organizational transformation, and action research (AR) methodologies.

Dr. Gulen Hashmi is currently teaching Strategic Management to Executive MBA (EMBA) students and Sustainability in Hospitality at the undergraduate level. She has previously taught Strategic Hospitality Management at the undergraduate level and Change Management at the master’s level. She harnesses active and participatory teaching and learning methods whereby students are highly involved in in-class activities and can learn through peer interaction as well as self-directed autonomy.

John is a seasoned hotel and restaurant operations professional, instructor, and researcher. Some of John’s experience includes Kempinski, Four Seasons, Radisson, Omni, Marriott, Sonesta, and Wyndham brand hotels as well as his own restaurant, Seven Hills.

After 25+ years of national and international industry experience, John focused on the academic career and worked as a Hotel, restaurant, and hospitality management educator at various institutions such as Stratford, Texas Tech, Framingham State University, Anne Arundel, and Frederick Community College.

Lodging, F&B Operations, Corporatization, and fermented adult beverages are John’s primary research interests.  John’s current certifications include Ph.D. in Hospitality Administration, MBA specializing in hospitality, ServSafe Food Management, TIPS instructor, and Proctor.

John currently works as an Assistant Professor for the Management, Business & Information Technology Department of Framingham State University to build a well-recognized hospitality program and owns a hospitality consulting company.
