Lisa Antoune, Libassa Ecolodge, Monrovia, Liberia

I am the co-founder and managing director. We started to build Libassa Ecolodge 9 years ago with my husband.
It started from the dream to enjoy Liberia’s wild and beautiful nature in an eco-friendly way.

We are located within an original tropical forest, at the junction of a virgin lagoon and the Atlantic ocean, only 30 minutes from Robert’s International Airport and Monrovia. Our entire resort is eco friendly, built in harmony with the natural environment, in search of the right balance between human intervention and nature’s wonderful architecture.

For 10 years now, we have trained many local communities to different jobs (laundry, receptionist, maintenance, cook, cashier,…). Additional to Libassa, we built and run an early learning center that now welcomes 100 kids from 3 to 8 years old. We built and run the first mixed wildlife sanctuary in Liberia where the goal is to release most of the protected animals destined for bushmeat.
We are also the co-founder of the Liberia National Tourism Association where we are developing a project such as a tourism booth on arrival at the airport, developing a beautiful tourism site for visitors, participating in exhibition worldwide to represent tourism in Liberia.

We are a pioneer in eco-friendly tourism in Liberia and have the first and unique wildlife in West Africa to protect endangered species.

Our goal is to show the beauty of Liberia and its incredible sites to visit and of course to help to open up the country to tourism.

hen borders will re-open, people will start to travel again for sure but certainly in a more ‘eco-friendly’ way.
We all saw damages of humans on the planet, and many people will start to look for more Nature sites, an eco-friendly environment with less impact on our planet.

In order to boost the travel industry again, taxes at the airport should be considerably reduced! the easiest process to get a visa. Right now in Liberia, we do not have a visa on arrival, the process is very difficult and expensive! around 150USD for 1 visa! The airplane ticket is around 1000 to 1400USD per person, which is very expensive. All these do not encourage tourism in Liberia.
